Entrega a la Mar (Offering to the Sea) was an artistic and environmental initiative developed as part of the ArtesanoGroup Foundation’s international residency program. The project focused on the collective creation of large-scale ceramic sculptures, conceived in collaboration with traditional potters from El Cercado, scientists, musicians, and artists. These works were designed for permanent underwater installation, functioning as living structures intended for the ecological and symbolic regeneration of the coastal landscape.
The project fostered a horizontal dialogue in which traditional knowledge, scientific innovation, and contemporary artistic practice interacted as equals, respecting and amplifying the unique expertise of each participant. The proposal highlighted craftsmanship as a profound form of territorial knowledge, while offering a poetic and ecological perspective on the present.
Following an invitation from the ArtesanoGroup Foundation and its president, Carmen Julieta Centeno, an artist residency was held at the centuries-old Pottery School of El Cercado—a setting where the island's colonial history and pre-Columbian heritage coexist. The experience evolved into an action aimed at promoting marine life and ocean sustainability through the potent symbolic weight of clay.
Through a collaborative dynamic involving master potters, curators, scientists, musicians, and artists, this collective project culminated in the creation of a ceramic reef produced at the El Cercado School. The process included the participation of local art students, musicians, and the visual artist Eduardo Palomares, invited by ArtesanoGroup. The resulting pieces were fired using traditional techniques and subsequently installed in the island's affected waters as a symbolic and ecological gesture of restoration.
